Deaf Dog Saves AR Family from Fire

Feb. 2, 2024
Dakota saw the blaze and alerted his family who include volunteers at Hector Fire Department.

An Arkansas couple -- volunteer firefighters -- are alive to continue responding thanks to their deaf dog.

While he couldn’t hear the flames, Dakota could see and smell them, alerting his owners about the house fire.

Mike and Jennifer Geurian and their three children escaped from their burning home without injuries, KARK reported.

The two longtime volunteers never imagined they would ever be the victims of a fire.

Hector Fire Chief Jake Jones said when the tones dropped, he and others knew they were responding to the house of one of their members.

"...I believe Dakota is the difference between them being alive and them not being,” the chief said.
